London based Welsh Soprano Ffion Edwards was a Young Artist with the National Opera Studio 21/22. She is a Master of Performance graduate at the Royal College of Music, and is an alumna of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Recent roles include Lola in the world premiere of Jonathan Dove’s Uprising at Glyndebourne, The Snowmaiden in Rimsky-Korsakovs The Snowmaiden with English Touring Opera, Miranda in Anthony Bolton’s Island of Dreams at Grange Park Opera, Giannetta in Donizetti’s L’Elisir D’Amore at Glyndebourne, Cunegonde in Bernstein’s Candide at Welsh National Opera.
In the 21/22 season, Ffion made debuts at Glyndebourne Festival Opera giving two performances of Oberto in Handel’s Alcina, Glyndebourne Touring Opera as First Bridesmaid and cover Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze Di Figaro, Opéra National de Lorraine in the role of Kristin in Julie by Belgian composer Boesmans, English National Opera in the role of Frantik and Jay in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen.
As a soloist, Ffion has worked with ENO Orchestra, WNO Orchestra, performed Bach Ascension Oratorio (RCM), Bach B Minor Mass (Tilford Bach Festival), Messiah (Bristol Cathedral), Eternal Light (Gloucester Cathedral) and debuted at the Royal Albert Hall. Ffion was the winner of the Handel Prize in The Maureen Lehane Virtual Vocal Awards 2021. She has also given private recitals accompanied by maestro Carlo Rizzi and performed for HRH King Charles at his home in Wales.
